The final week of September 2011 features many alternative screenings of popular and classic films around the Las Vegas area.

Saturday, Sept. 23, 2011

The District at Green Valley Ranch provides a free screening of the animated sci-fi feature “Planet 51” for its “Outdoor Picture Show” program. This “movies under the stars event” starts at 7:00 p.m. at The Green, which is just adjacent to Whole Foods Market and The Carousel. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic baskets during the screening. Complimentary popcorn are available. The District is located at 2240 Village Walk Dr. Henderson, NV 89052.

Sunday, Sept. 24, 2011

The “Saturday Family Flix” program of the Clark County Library features the animated film “Rango” at the library’s Jewel Box Theater. Open to families and friends, this free screening starts at 2:00 p.m. Clark County Library is located at 1401 E. Flamingo Rd. Las Vegas, NV 89119. For inquiries, call (702) 507-3400.

As part of the bi-weekly “Outdoor Picture Show” of The District at Green Valley Ranch, The Green hosts the free movie showing of “Apollo 13.” Screening starts at dusk. The District is located at 2240 Village Walk Dr. Henderson, NV 89052.

In celebration of the National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) the Sunrise Library hosts the free screening of “No Eres Tu, Soy Yo” for its special program “Diversity NHHM.” This movie event scheduled from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the library’s auditorium is open to teens, adults, and seniors. Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011

The free screening of the 1940s classic “Mexican Spitfire’s Baby” wraps up the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s month-long “Tuesday Afternoon at the Bijou” series under the special program “Diversity NHHM.” This event is open to adults and seniors and the program is scheduled from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Clark County Library’s Main Theater. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011

The Green Valley Library in Henderson hosts the screening of “Art of Nature: Wildlife and Landscapes of the Peruvian Amazon and Machu Picchu,” a multimedia showing taking viewers to the pristine regions of the Peruvian Amazon and the World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu. This adult program is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the library’s Program Room. Although free to the public, those interested to attend the event are required to register online until Sept. 27 at 8:00 p.m. The library requires a 24-hour cancellation notice to provide slots for those in the waiting list. The Springs Preserve invites guests to watch the short film “Miss Rumphius,” an adaptation of the 1982 children’s fiction book of the same title by Barbara Cooney. Based on a true story, this story shows how people can make the world a more beautiful place through a handful of seeds. This screening runs every two hours inside the Big Springs Theater from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. for all Saturdays and Sundays of September. Members can watch the film for free, while other guests only need to pay the Springs Preserve’s general admission to attend the screening.
