The week covering Sept. 16 to 22, 2011 features a number of alternative screenings for families and adults in the Las Vegas area.

These popular and classic movie offerings are mostly hosted by public libraries and commercial establishments. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011

The City of North Las Vegas invites families and friends for “Free Movie Madness,” a series of family-friendly films shown on a large mobile movie screen at the North Las Vegas Park. Nature Discovery Park hosts pre-movie activities starting at 6:30 p.m., then the free screening of “Toy Story 3” begins at dusk. Food and refreshments are available for purchase. The District at Green Valley Ranch offers a free screening of the animated flick “Gnomeo and Juliet” under its “Outdoor Picture Show” starting 7:00 p.m. This family-friendly program features a free movie every Fridays and Saturdays for the entire month of September. The Theatre7 “Something Weird Presents” program features the Las Vegas premiere of the documentary “Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore.” Screening starts 7:00 p.m. and tickets are sold at $7 each. The Clark County Library has a free screening of the family-friendly picture “Yogi Bear” for its free “Saturday Movie Matinee” program from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. This offering happens at the library’s Story Room. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011

The Clark County Library features the classic motion-picture piece “The Mexican Spitfire Out West” for its “Movie Series: Tuesday Afternoon at the Bijou: Lupe Velez, the Mexican Spitfire” program. This is a part of the library’s celebration of the National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) through its special program “Diversity NHHM.” The Main Theater hosts this free screening from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Adults and seniors are welcome to attend. The Paseo Verde Library Anime Club offers two selected episodes of anime, along with free snacks for the attendees.
