Las Vegas film events from Oct. 14 to 20, 2011

From Oct. 14 to 20, 2011, movie buffs in the Las Vegas area have many options to satisfy their viewing cravings. A number of these events are scheduled during the weekend and are mostly free movie screenings.

Aside from the popular films showcased at the public library, there are also free movie events hosted by other alternative screening venues and a local park. As schedules may change without prior notice, it is important to confirm the events with the organizers ahead of time.

Friday, Oct. 14, 2011

The Nature Discovery Park features a free screening of “Megamind” as part of the City of North Las Vegas program “Movie Madness,” a series of family-friendly and fantastic films shown at a large mobile movie screen in North Las Vegas parks. The screening starts at dusk, but there are pre-movie activities scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. Attendees can also take advantage of the food and refreshments available for purchase during the event.

The “Outdoor Picture Show” of The District at Green Valley Ranch showcases the Disney family flick “Mars Needs Moms” at The Green. Set in an outdoor venue, this big screen movie event is open to the public and starts at 7:00 p.m.

The Clark County Library holds a free showing of the Reel Rock Film Tour movie series. This tour is meant to showcase the wildest climbing stories from around the globe. This event — geared toward teens, adults, and seniors — starts at 7:00 p.m. at the library’s Main Theater.

The PollyGrind Film Festival showcases the independent films “My Name is A,” “Dot Got Shot,” “Sprinkles,” and “The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol” at Theatre7 starting at 7:00 p.m. This is followed by the 10:00 p.m. screening of “BANG BANG,” “All Flowers in Time,” and “Butterfly.” For its midnight screening, the festival features “Acro-Love” and “Ratline.”

Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011

The District at Green Valley Ranch features “Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil” for its Outdoor Picture Show at 7:00 p.m. This animated sequel to the original “Hoodwinked!” is set to screen outdoors via a large projector screen at The Green.

Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011

The Clark County Library shows the animated film “Megamind” for its free movie series “Sunday Movie Matinee.” Screening is scheduled from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the library’s Story Room.

Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011

The Clark County Library invites adults and seniors to the free public showing of the original 1932 horror film “The Mummy.” This pre-Halloween film event is part of the library’s free movie series Tuesday Afternoon at the Bijou: Universal’s Horror Classics. The screening is scheduled from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the library’s Main Theater.

Theatre7 hosts another PollyGrind Film Festival event with “Jim and Them Halloween Special” starting at 7:00 p.m.
