Las Vegas film events from Aug. 26 to Sept. 1, 2011 include film festival screenings, family movies, and independent features.

These events are mostly hosted by local hotels, libraries, commercial spaces, and art-house venues. A number of the movies are free for all, along with a few requiring ticket purchase.

Friday, Aug. 26, 2011

The Tropicana Las Vegas hosts the second day of the Vegas Cine Fest with the screening of “More to Live For” from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tickets cost $12. The festival also holds a Friday Night Network After Party at the Nikki Beach Club of the Tropicana. The event is scheduled from 9:00 pm. to 11:59 p.m. Tickets cost $35 to $50. “Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” screens at The District at Green Valley Ranch for its “The Outdoor Picture Show” program, which runs from May to October 2011. This concert movie is open to the public; the screening starts at 7:30 p.m. at The Green. This venue is just adjacent to the Whole Foods Market and The Carousel. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic baskets, and refreshments. Complimentary popcorn is also available every movie night. The Clark County Library holds the “Movie Series: Saturday Family Flix,” featuring the film “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.” Open to seniors, adults, teens, and kids, this family-friendly flick starts its free screening at 2:00 p.m. at the library’s Jewel Box Theater. The Tropicana Las Vegas invites film aficionados to the third and final day of the Vegas Cine Fest Film Festival with a Saturday All Access Pass for Red Carpet, World Premiere Screening, Awards Ceremony, and Closing After Party festival events from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Each ticket costs $70 to $100 at BrownPaperTickets. The District at Green Valley Ranch’s “The Outdoor Picture Show” program features “The Karate Kid,” the 2010 remake of the 1984 original. This outdoor screening is free for all. Movie starts at 7:30 p.m.

Theater7 hosts “PollyGrind.com Presents Tons of Fun Double Feature,” which showcases the short film “Fat Knight” and the obscure cult classic “Bloody Ape.” Screening starts at 7:00 p.m. A Q&A follows after. The Sunrise Library invites teens, adults, and seniors to a special screening of “The Green Hornet” for its “Movie Series Sunday Movie Matinee” program.
